BerkShares exchange at Gt. Barrington Branch of Salisbury Bank

BerkShares, Inc. is pleased to announce that, starting on April 1st, participants in the local economy can exchange their dollars for BerkShares at the Great Barrington branch of Salisbury Bank and Trust Company.  Salisbury Bank and Trust Company has been a long-time partner of BerkShares, Inc., and its Sheffield and South Egremont branches were among the first banks to start offering BerkShares exchange services in September of 2006.

“We have been looking forward to this day since we opened the Great Barrington branch last year,” says Georgann Farnum, branch manager. Farnum oversaw the implementation of BerkShares exchange services in the Sheffield and Egremont branches in 2006.

“We here at Salisbury Bank and Trust Company are very happy to participate in the BerkShares initiative, as it aligns quite well with our dedication to serving the needs of the local economy,” said the bank’s President and CEO, Rick Cantele.

“The Board of BerkShares is glad to have such a strong partner in Salisbury Bank and Trust Company,” says BerkShares, Inc. board president, Adrian Alcalá. “Their commitment to BerkShares is a demonstration of how community banks have the interests of our community at heart, and why they are a resource we cannot take for granted.”

BerkShares can be spent at more than 400 participating businesses based in the Berkshire region, thereby encouraging people to keep their money circulating in locally owned businesses.

BerkShares exchange services are available at any of the participating branches of the three local banks involved in the program: Lee Bank, Pittsfield Cooperative Bank, and Salisbury Bank and Trust Company.  The seven participating branches of these three banks can be found in Lee, Stockbridge, Great Barrington, Sheffield, and South Egremont.
