Michael Gallagher and Ashley Amsden have owned and operated Square Roots Farm since 2010. They started the farm with 30 CSA shares, some feeder pigs, and a bunch of meat chickens. In 2013, they purchased the old Fletcher Farm from Berkshire Natural Resources Council, land just two miles from Michael’s childhood home, and they married on the farm later that year. They continue to farm joyfully on those 185 acres with their two children, Maggie and Everett.
All of their products are grown right on the farm using methods that support living communities and improve the land. Everything is GMO-free, and they do not use chemical pesticides/herbicides/insecticides or fertilizers, hormones, or unnecessary antibiotics. They practice rotational, management intensive grazing, with all animals on green, growing pasture for as long as the season allows.
