Employer-sponsored childcare implies involvement in workforce and shift in child care culture.
Idea Pitch - What are you selling? Why is it important?
The Berkshires is an attractive area for young families – a rural setting with good education, but with approximately 200 births per year in South Berkshire County and exactly 21 day care spots open for children between birth and 2 years 9 months, the Berkshires express a dire need for childcare if we expect to continue to attract these families.
Problem Worth Solving
Childcare for working families, so that they can participate in and contribute to the economy, rather than staying home with their young children. Furthermore, current regulations mandate there be a 3:1 ratio of teacher to child, ensuring proper development and attention provided, which makes staffing and paying a living wage difficult and expensive.
A day care service that contracts with local institutions like Jane Iredale Cosmetics, Berkshire Health Systems and smaller for- and non-profit organziations to guarantee day care spots for expectant mothers. This becomes an income stream with company sponsorship and subsidation and an attractive selling point for hiring companies.
Market Opportunity - Who are your target customers and how will you reach them? How will you distribute your product or service? How does your idea meet an opportunity for import replacement?
On the business side, customers are the companies who can provide sponsorship.
On the participation side are the mothers with young children, or the expectant mothers.
The competition is:
Other established day care companies, but due to lack of space and high demand, not serious competition.
Potential franchise day care companies that could enter market.
