Problem Worth Solving

Studies show that when people age around their family, in a familiar place, they maintain health and live longer.  Western culture, however, suggests as people age, they move out of their homes into nursing homes where they can be cared for by professionals.  How can we keep people in their homes, where they feel comfortable and safe?

On the other side, the Berkshires are facing a declining and aging population.  Costs of living are rising and not attracting young people.  Is there an alternative affordable housing structure?

Your Solution

The solution is a service that functions to do background, security, and credit checks to provide co-habitation between able-bodied young people, capable of providing support and aging populations.

The service could facilitate leases, contracts for housing, and home sharing.

Market Opportunity - Who are your target customers and how will you reach them? How will you distribute your product or service? How does your idea meet an opportunity for import replacement?

This could appeal to aging persons looking to stay at home and young people and families looking for affordable housing in the Berkshires.

It could be marketed through local press, councils on aging, elder services and AARP mailings.

The service could be formatted on a match-making platform like sitter city, dating sites.

Your Competition

The competition is nursing homes and retirement communities and traditional rental and home purchases styles.  Airbnb-style services that act in similar match-making methods.

Idea Pitch - What are you selling? Why is it important?

The cost of living is high in the Berkshires in an area with an aging population.  If we want to attract young people and keep the elderly healthy and provide them with an opportunity to pass on their skills and wisdom, we need to create a space for mutual appreciation and interaction.  A match making service that facilitates co-habitation.
